The moon shines down with its magnificent light blessing each of us on the Earth, connecting us with each other. My granddaughter at age two was enthralled with this nightly miracle. If we as adults took notice each night it might bring us much closer to world peace, than any political agenda.
Moon Paintings: a Shift in My Painting Process
I began to have experiences with the Moon in the late eighties. I would see the moon and take that experience into my heart deeply touched by its presence. The next day I would go into the studio and the image would pour out of me onto the paper seeming carried on the color through the pure pastel pigments.
The image was carried through the Consciousness of color received by my soul and then expressed on to the paper. It was a very different process from what I had learned in art school.
In art school I was taught to observe the form of what I intended to portray in line and in shades of light and dark that were observed rather academically. Then color was applied on top of the form.
After working with Liane Collot d’herbois and my initiation with the conscious color energies I no longer saw form in that detached way. The form was transmitted through color and the forming impulses of the color Consciousness. The form was manifest out of the vary Consciousness of the color energies.
After two years moon paintings, I looked back over them and realized that the sequence of paintings had followed the cycle of the moon itself, spreading its month long journey over a two year period. That two year sequence began with a waxing crescent and ended with a waning crescent. I still am inspired by the moon to again paint it in this way.
It continues to engage my interest over and over for decades. I continue to be amazed by the wonder of its appearance. Always new. Always unique. Always filled with blessed understanding and intelligence.
